Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO has announced that it advised on 362 deals in 2022 which amounted to a total value of £31.2bn.
Transactions involving private equity accounted for two thirds of the deals completed. According to the company it outperformed the global M and A market.
The company stated that 60% of its deal activity took place in the Midlands, East Anglia, North of England and Scotland.
The deals spanned a number of sectors including technology, real estate and financial services.
One of the company’s biggest deals was acting as lead M andA advisor to the shareholders of Incremental Group on the sale of the business to Telefónica Tech, for an enterprise value of up to £175m.
Peter Hemington, head of M and A said: “2022 was an excellent year for BDO’s M&A business. Somewhat against what we read in the papers, it started slowly, but gained momentum as we went through the year. H2’s performance was really strong – which given the general malaise in the economy was a tribute to some really good and hard work from the team, and testament to the resilience of the entrepreneurial mid-market clients we work with.
“Tech and life sciences continued to be strong, reflecting a high level of investment that we’ve made in those sectors in recent years. We’ve also invested heavily in the industrials sector, which did really well in 2022. Financial services made a good start, following our investment in new, quality hires with this specialism.”
