Who are MHA?

Based across the United Kingdom, MHA is a network of independent regional accountancy firms and is an independent member of Baker Tilly International. Baker Tilly is considered one of the world’s top ten global accountancy and business advisory networks. Currently it is supporting advisors in 148 territories, with 740 offices worldwide and 37,000 employees.

MHA has 30 offices in the UK and hails itself as representing “a broad range of clients from entrepreneurs starting on their journeys through to well-established global companies”. In London, the South East and Midlands, MHA MacIntyre Hudson provides services to its clients, while MHA Mohans represents clients in the South West. MHA Moore & Smalley and MHA Tait Walker work with businesses in the North West and North East, respectively.

What do they do?

The firm represents clients working in a variety of sectors, including healthcare, motor retail, hospitality, professional services, agriculture, construction, energy, manufacturing and engineering.

Among the services provided by MHA are audit and assurance work, outsourcing, automotive and EV readiness advisory services, research and development expertise, corporate recovery, tax services and business advice.

Recent financials

Despite dealing with the impact of Brexit and the direct consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, the MHA Corporate Finance network reported 64 completed transactions for 2019, as well as 28 completed transactions in the first quarter of 2020.

For 2020, analysis of completed transactions where MHA advised showed a higher average proportion of consideration paid at completion (81%), with only 19% deferred – and critically only 7% contingent upon future performance. Some 30% of MHA transactions completed in 2020 involved private equity.

In the news

Recently, MHA MacIntyre Hudson advised on Amito’s investment deal with Harwood Private Equity as part of the group’s plans to fuel its “rapid growth”.

On the deal, Chris Denning, a partner at MHA MacIntyre Hudson, said: “It was a pleasure to be able to support Ed and the team on structuring this transaction and congratulations on securing Harwood’s support at a key and exciting point on the company’s history.

“We very much look forward to continuing working together with Amito and its shareholders as the growth and expansion strategy is executed.”

Furthermore, in October 2020, MHA MacIntyre Hudson announced the appointment of Paul Winrow as technical partner. Windrow said: “It’s a challenging but exciting time for the audit profession in the UK.

“The nature and structure of audit is evolving fast in response to the needs of the market, regulators and changes in the workplace. Quality is central to everything an auditor does.”

He added: “It’s critically important we embrace the challenges confronting the profession and continue to drive improvements in audit quality as we look to cement our place as a leading challenger firm.”
