RSM UK has appointed Laura Schmuttermeier as risk and governance partner in its consulting team.

She joins from Hutchinson 3G (Three) where she led the risk, compliance and data protection team.

Prior to that she worked at Deloitte for 14 years, and as a director headed up internal audit and compliance in the telecoms, media and technology (TMT) team.

Schmuttermeier has worked across many sectors, specialising in the TMT industry, and has advised a variety of clients ranging from the FTSE 100 to private equity and privately owned companies.

During her career, she was also part of the Siemens’ bribery investigation team that led to the subsequent introduction of the UK Bribery Act.

At RSM, she will focus on risk, governance, compliance and internal control advisory services in the corporate space, building upon the firm’s footprint in this area.

She will also work closely with the firm’s business transformation team to incorporate risk management, compliance and governance into transformation projects.

Schmuttermeier said: “I’m delighted to join RSM at this pivotal time and support the growth journey of the firm. Being able to identify the right solution for clients and knowing that I’ve helped to make a transformational difference to their business makes my role particularly rewarding.”

Alex Tait, national head of risk and governance at RSM UK, added: “Laura’s proven track record to successfully drive change and build trusted relationships will be key in strengthening our risk and governance offering further. It’s great to have her as part of the consulting team.”
