Buzzacott

Background Summary 

Buzzacott is a UK ‘Top 20 accountancy firm’, which dates back to 1919 when it was founded by Fred Buzzacott – a munitions accountant during the First World War.  

Eventually, in 1966, Watson Regan and Co was formed and purchased the Buzzacott firm in the same year. In 1972, the firm, which operated as Buzzacott, Vincent, Watson, Kilner and Co, shortened its name to ‘Buzzacott and Co’. Then in 1978, accountancy firm West Wake Price split in two and half of the practice moved to Salisbury Square House, London, and joined Buzzacott and Co. 

In the 1990s the firm began to introduce new specialisms including charity services and private client services. In the 2000’s, the company made the decision to shorten its name to just ‘Buzzacott’. The current CEO of Buzzacott is Tony Hopson. 

Buzzacott offers a range of services to its clients. Namely, audit, corporate finance advice, outsourcing, and tax. They also offer special services which include: 

Benefits and pensions: A service for employers, which helps in setting up tax-efficient perks, incentives and pension schemes that reward and motivate staff.

HR or people issues: A service for employers, which helps advise how best to handle any HR issues they may face. Including recruitment, personal development and planning future steps for the company.

Raising funds: Helps with corporate finance transactions, buying, selling or merging a business, R&D tax credits and company secretarial services.

Investment: Offering investment strategies to individuals, and helps organisations plan for profit.

Expat tax advice: Helps world citizens manage their finances and stay compliant.

Divorce: Helps individuals deal with the financial impact of divorce. Advises clients on wills and estate planning, tax planning and valuations.

Financials

Buzzacott reported an annual turnover of £71.9m for the year ended 30 September 2023, which shows a rise of 14% year-on-year compared with the previous year.

Recent Coverage

Buzzacott has partnered with HR consultancy firm Buck to deliver its AAF report. Buck was founded more than 100 years ago and was recently acquired by Gallagher, a US-based insurance brokerage and risk management services firm.

Buzzacott has advised Foxtons on its acquisition of Ludlow Thompson for £10m. The firm has previously assisted Foxtons with its acquisition of Douglas & Gordon in 2021, both Stones Residential and Gordon & Co in 2022 and Atkinson McLeod earlier in 2023.

Buzzacott has appointed Meera Shah as head of M&A in the corporate finance team. Shah specialises in advising owner-managed businesses on their full and partial exits to both trade and private equity buyers, with expertise in selling UK headquartered, global businesses to US buyers.

Buzzacott has promoted Alex Judd, Anna-Louise Shipley, and Greg Westcott within its corporate finance team. This team has advised on over 75 transactions in the past four years.

Buzzacott has appointed David Stears as the head of its newly-established valuations service. The new valuation specialism is an important addition to the firm’s corporate finance team, as it will provide a more ‘comprehensive and joined-up’ service to its clients.
