MHA Moore and Smalley has revealed it was asked to make furlough claims on behalf of 300 businesses in the first week of the government scheme.
In the first two days after the furlough scheme portal went live on 20 April, the accountancy firm processed more than 1,000 individual claims as part of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS).
The group now expects to support businesses in making claims for thousands of employees over the coming days.
After first announcing the CJRS scheme in March, the government has now made it available until the end of June at the earliest.
The scheme allows employers to claim back 80% of an employee’s wage for up to £2,500, as well as any employer National Insurance and pension contributions.
Adam Parton, partner at MHA Moore and Smalley, said: “This is possibly the government’s most valuable business support programme of all time, and the system has been far more robust than people first envisaged, especially because the claims calculation can be complicated when you have different types of employees working different hours and contract types.
“This scheme really has been a godsend and without it many more workers would already have been made permanently redundant. I would urge all businesses to make the most of this scheme while it’s available.”
