Churchill Knight launches new CIS payroll service

The service has been created for self-employed professionals working in construction

Churchill Knight has announced the launch of Churchill Knight CIS, a payroll service to cater exclusively to self-employed professionals working in the construction sector.

The government introduced the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) to help ensure that contractors and subcontractors in construction pay the correct taxes. Churchill Knight CIS is a service created for self-employed professionals working in construction.

By registering with the service, the firm acts as the contractor and will send its clients’ gross pay to their personal bank account, minus a small margin and 20% tax sent directly to HMRC on account.

Clients only need to conduct their work as usual and record the hours they complete as well as share this information with the supply chain.

Churchill Knight CIS clients must complete and submit a self-assessment tax return to pay their National Insurance Contributions (Class 2 and Class 4) and any additional tax due at the end of each tax year.

However, construction workers who can claim expenses often welcome tax returns because it means a tax rebate may be on the cards.

Every Churchill Knight CIS client will also have access to a discounted self-assessment tax return with its parent company, Churchill Knight and Associates Ltd – adding further value to the CIS payroll service.

Ciaran Woodcock, director at Churchill Knight Umbrella, said: “We have noticed a rise in the number of self-employed construction workers seeking a specialist CIS payroll provider to help them operate compliantly within their field and to ensure they are paid on time.

“I am confident that our in-house payroll experts will provide an excellent value service like no other, and construction workers will not look back when they register with us.”

Woodcock continued: “I cannot wait to welcome construction workers to Churchill Knight and contact our recruitment agency partners who place CIS candidates. Churchill Knight CIS will ensure workers are paid compliantly and on time, and it will help agencies move forward with confidence, knowing they can place temporary workers in construction assignments with the backing of a specialist, compliant payroll provider.

“This is the start of an exciting chapter at Churchill Knight, and I am looking forward to seeing it develop.”
