Baker Tilly International has reported record global revenues of $5.2bn for the year ending December 2023, marking an 11% increase from the previous year. The firm has consistently expanded, growing by almost 30% since 2020, with Europe being the fastest-growing region at 17%. Baker Tilly’s service lines, including advisory, tax, and assurance, all experienced double-digit growth. The firm’s headcount globally increased by 4.5% to 43,000, with 3,380 partners worldwide. Advisory was the fastest-growing service line at 12.3%. The firm’s CEO, Francesca Lagerberg, highlighted the achievement in a volatile market, expressing confidence in their renewed strategy.

Johnston Carmichael has welcomed Matt Kaye as an audit partner based in Edinburgh. Kaye, with nearly two decades of extensive experience, joined from a Big Four audit team. His addition comes as the firm’s audit team continues to expand. Johnston Carmichael, having recently secured multiple business wins, audits more of Scotland’s Top 100 Private Businesses than any other firm. The audit team has seen significant growth, with key senior hires, creating a specialist team of over 230 audit professionals across Scotland, Newcastle, and London.

PSAA and all local audit system partners have expressed a shared resolve to address the “significant numbers” of delayed audit opinions. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUCH) and the National Audit Office (NAO) released a joint statement addressing the unacceptable backlog in the publication of audited accounts of local bodies in England. The backlog of outstanding audit opinions stood at 771 as of December 31, 2023. DLUCH and NAO launched consultations on proposals to address the local audit backlog and restore timely, high-quality financial reporting and audit.
