PwC UK welcomes largest summer student cohort

The programme is for students in their final or penultimate year of study and offers fully paid, on the job experience

Big Four firm PwC has revealed it has welcomed its largest ever in-person student cohort as part of its paid summer internship programme, with 610 interns to join the firm in offices across the UK, throughout July and August.

The internship programme offers students insight into PwC’s business and culture, equipping them with work experience and employability skills, helping build their networks and collaborating with both graduate trainees and experienced professionals on real client projects.

The programme is for students in their final or penultimate year of study and offers fully paid, on the job experience. Varying in length, from four to 10 weeks, with the interns expected to spend 40-60% of their time in the office or at client sites in line with PwC’s hybrid working policy.

PwC added it is also “actively engaged” in a variety of early career programmes designed to increase representation and work experience for young people and under-represented groups.

This includes a summer work experience programme which offers a full week’s paid in-person work experience for over 200 year 12 (or equivalent) students from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Similarly, its Women in Business programme offers a three day paid programme to attract female talent to the firm. This year, the firm will also launch its Career Launch work experience programme, a week long in-person paid work experience in Belfast and Manchester.

Ian Elliott, chief people officer at PwC, said: “It’s brilliant to be welcoming our largest ever internship cohort this summer. We understand that students who missed out on face-to-face activities during the pandemic are keen to learn skills such as networking and presenting. That’s why this year we’ve got an increased focus on face-to-face training, to ensure that the students we work with have more exposure to in-person activities, our people and our clients.”
