Gov names ACCA executive director as chair of UPAG

The group provides independent recommendations and advice to the Treasury to improve public sector financial reporting

Maggie McGhee, executive director for Strategy and Governance at ACCA, has been appointed chair of HM Treasury’s User Preparer Advisory Group (UPAG).

The group provides independent recommendations and advice to the Treasury to improve public sector financial reporting.

McGhee has been employed at ACCA for almost seven years.

She began her career here as a director of professional insight and held that position for three years before being moved to executive director of strategy and governance.

Prior to ACCA, she worked for over a decade as director general at the UK National Audit Office and for a short period at PwC as director.

McGhee said: “I am looking forward to joining UPAG as its chair. The group makes an important contribution to the public interest by working towards the further improvement of financial reporting across government and I hope we can continue to contribute to broadening accessibility of government financial reports and meet the needs of users.”

HMT spokesperson added: “We are thrilled to have Maggie as our new chair for UPAG and we look forward to working with her more. She has a wealth of experience across many fields including public sector finance, accountancy, and public audit.”
