Shipleys

Background Summary

Founded in 1936, Shipleys is a firm of chartered accountants and professional business advisors.

A self-described “medium sized accountancy firm”, Shipleys specialises in a number of niche markets, as well as offering its services to a wider range of sectors and areas.

The group is based out of two offices in London and Godalming, with Simon Robinson acting as its managing principal.

Moreover, as a member of AGN International, a global association of separate and independent accounting and advisory firms, Shipleys is able to support businesses with issues that arise worldwide.

Shipleys offers a range of accounting, audit, tax, and specialist services to both businesses and individuals.

The group’s service lines can be categorised as accounting and audit, online bookkeeping, business tax planning, corporate compliance, corporate finance, fee protection, forensic accounting, HR consultancy, international tax, inward investment, payroll, private clients, trusts and estates, VAT, and will-writing.

The company also works across a range of sectors, including charities and not-for-profit, creative industries, film, TV, and animation production, financial services, legal, owner-managed businesses, property and construction, renewable energy, and video game companies.

Financials

For the year ended 30 April 2023, Shipley’s posted a turnover of £17.9m, up from £15.5m the previous year. The company also posted an operating profit of £6.8m, up from £6.05m the previous year.

Recent Coverage

In January 2023 the Financial Reporting Council announced it had opened an investigation into Shipleys audit of Zaim Credit Systems for the year ended 31 December 2021.

The investigation cames after the London Stock Exchange suspended trading of Zaim’s shares last September following a separate investigation into who wholly owned the company.

The FRC stated that the investigation was only into Shipleys and not into any other “persons or entities”.
