Azets has announced the appointment of audit specialist office managing partner Ben Sheldon to lead its Birmingham operation.

The firm has also added partner Aulfat Bi to its national capital allowances team as the firm expands its regional presence.

Sheldon, who joined the firm in 2019, takes responsibility for a 130-strong office that works across technology, sports, manufacturing, aviation and real estate. The appointment follows a period of growth in the audit division, which has increased from 12 to more than 80 people in six years.

A chartered accountant, Sheldon focuses on audits for private businesses ranging from small entities to international groups, and serves on the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Technical and Practical Auditing Committee.

Bi joins as partner after more than 20 years in capital allowances and land remediation relief. A chartered tax adviser, she has worked with clients across all major sectors and previously led a specialist team at a boutique firm after training at a Big Four practice.

The Birmingham office also provides corporate finance, forensics, restructuring and insolvency, and business advisory services.

Sheldon said: “We have a hugely ambitious team, and I’m looking forward to supporting a people-focused growth strategy that invests not only in our clients but in the city itself.

“Collaboration is a big part of who we are in Birmingham, both in how we work with each other and how we support the community.”

The office works with organisations including The King’s Trust and Birmingham Central Foodbank through workshops, fundraising and volunteering. Colleagues recently prepared food packages for local families and donated 29kg of supplies.

Richard Goddard, regional managing director at Azets, added: “With specialist capability across multiple sectors and a growing pipeline of opportunities, we’re investing in people, technology and infrastructure to ensure we stay ahead of what our clients need. The addition of new senior talent, including Aulfat, further strengthens our offer.”

The latest hires follow senior promotions in November, when directors Sarah Sullivan and Joel Fentem were appointed in Birmingham.
