Chartered accountancy firm Lubbock Fine has announced the promotion of private client tax specialist David Portman to partner

Portman’s career spans over 16 years of providing tailored tax solutions to high net worth individuals, including sports players, entertainers and tech entrepreneurs.

He first joined Lubbock Fine in 2016 from a mid-tier accountancy firm in London

Portman also has extensive experience of advising on UK tax matters for non-domiciled individuals, including the transition to the UK’s new Foreign Income and Gains system from 2025. To achieve this, he works closely with the overseas member firms of the Russell Bedford International network in order to provide a seamless cross border tax advisory and compliance service.

David also specialises in providing bespoke financial guidance to professional athletes. His advice often focuses on the transition from a relatively short, high-income playing career to a long, wealthy retirement or second career.

The sports and entertainment industries are a key focus for Lubbock Fine, with the firm providing a range of bespoke tax and accounting services for both individuals and businesses. These include tax services for internally mobile individuals with income from multiple countries.

Phil Blackburn, senior tax partner at Lubbock Fine, said: “David has consistently delivered outstanding results for our clients over the past eight years. We are delighted to see him join the partnership.”

Portman added: “I’m excited to step into the role of partner and contribute to the continued growth and success of Lubbock Fine. The firm has some really fantastic clients and I am looking forward to continuing to work with them for many years to come.”
