BK Plus has acquired Birmingham-based accountancy firm MDP as part of its national expansion strategy, establishing its first city-centre office in the Midlands.

The firm, which began in Walsall in 2020, now operates 35 offices and employs more than 700 people following a series of acquisitions across Scotland, Yorkshire, the North West and the South West

MDP will continue to operate from its existing Birmingham premises, supported by BK Plus’s wider specialist teams.

According to BK Plus, the acquisition strengthens its presence in the Midlands and enhances its support for small and medium-sized businesses.

MDP brings long-standing client relationships and a 50-strong team with experience advising owner-managed businesses across the city.

Arran Jones, partner at MDP, said: “We’re excited to be joining BK Plus at such a pivotal time in its journey. Our clients will continue to receive the same personal service and advice they trust, but now with access to even more services, specialists and national support. We’ve found a true cultural fit in BK Plus, and this next chapter brings fantastic opportunities for our clients and our team.”

Shaun Knight, BK Plus partner, added: “MDP is an important step in our journey, not just because of their quality and reputation, but because it brings us into Birmingham city centre for the first time.”

David Whale, MDP partner, concluded: “The teams at MDP have worked together for over 45 years to build one of the best independent corporate accountancy practices in Birmingham City Centre servicing the SME market. Eighty percent of our team have only ever worked for MDP, and we are proud to have helped more than 100 individuals achieve chartered accountant status.

“When BK Plus approached us, it was clear that both businesses shared similar goals and values. Our senior teams have known each other personally and professionally for over 20 years. bk plus brings additional resources, expertise and technology, while MDP offers a strong foundation for bk plus to cement its brand within Birmingham’s corporate SME environment. I’m proud to be part of the joining of these great firms.”
