Accountancy firm Lubbock Fine has been certified as a “great place to work” following strong feedback from its employees, with the company citing its independent status as key to its workplace culture.
More than 90% of staff said Lubbock Fine was a great place to work, compared with 54% at a typical UK business, according to results from the Great Place to Work survey. The firm has also been named one of the ‘UK’s Best Workplaces in Financial Services and Insurance’.
The company, which offers accountancy, tax and business advisory services, said it has avoided private equity investment to preserve a clear pathway to partnership for junior and mid-level staff.
According to the firm, the rise in private equity investment across the accountancy sector had diminished partnership prospects for staff at affected firms, with most equity already sold to external investors. It added that such investment could also result in cost-cutting measures and greater staff turnover as investors prioritise margin improvements and strategic overhauls.
In the staff survey, 94% of employees said they were proud to work for Lubbock Fine, while 88% said they were encouraged to balance work and personal life. Some 84% said they wanted to stay with the firm long term – rising to 90% among staff aged 35 to 44 – and 78% said management responded to feedback and ideas.
Robert Morley, chief operating officer of Lubbock Fine, said: “We are delighted to be given this certification. It is a testament to the expertise and leadership of our partners and their hard work to make Lubbock Fine a fun and rewarding place to work. We also believe it validates our decision to remain an independent firm.
“An increasing number of promising young accountants are leaving accountancy firms which are undergoing investment by private equity companies. We are proud to remain independent and offer a clear pathway to partnership from trainees upwards.”
Karen Foot, head of people at Lubbock Fine, added: “This title carries a great deal of weight and helps Lubbock Fine stand out amongst its peers. We invest a lot in building a strong company culture and having a strong people-first approach.
“We believe it is important that our junior and mid-level professionals are able to see a clear path ahead of them as they develop in their career.”
