RMT Accountants and Business Advisors has appointed Michael McCulloch as head of corporate finance as part of a wider strategy to expand its advisory services.

McCulloch, a chartered accountant with nearly 20 years’ experience, has also joined the firm’s board of directors.

He will lead RMT’s corporate finance team, overseeing deal execution and team development, and working on a range of active mandates across sectors.

He trained with PwC in London and Newcastle before specialising in corporate finance, and spent the past 13 years at a North East-based practice advising on UK and cross-border transactions.

McCulloch said: “RMT is making a strategic investment in its corporate finance capabilities and it’s an incredibly exciting time for me to be joining the business to lead this growth.

“Our market approach will focus on supporting existing clients, many of whom are preparing for investment, appraising bolt-on opportunities or looking at succession planning. We are aiming to build an advisory service that reflects the needs of those regional businesses and helps them prepare for key decisions that will shape their future.”

He added: “The wider corporate advisory market continues to show strong activity across the North East. RMT is putting itself in a great position to take advantage of this and is assembling a specialist team with extensive deal experience to meet this demand.”

Stephen Slater, managing director at RMT, concluded: “Michael brings proven technical capability and commercial insight to his new role and will set a clear direction for how we see our corporate finance offering developing in the future.

“We’re investing in bringing in the expertise we need to support our growth plans across all our service lines and to ensure we have the expertise required to meet the personal and commercial ambitions of our growing client base.”
