The Nottingham office of UHY has expanded its trainee programme through welcoming a new cohort of aspiring accountants to the team. Adding to the 14 trainees already at the firm within the audit, accounting and business services (ABS), and financial planning teams, the latest cohort consists of five graduates who have joined the audit team, alongside a school leaver and a placement student in ABS.
It comes as recent data has found that accountancy apprenticeships are seeing a “significant rise” in popularity, with seven in 10 apprentices saying the experience has helped them forge their career.
UHY’s trainee programme is designed to provide a structured pathway into the profession, offering full study support and hands-on experience while “ensuring long-term career progression within the firm”.
The programme typically spans five years for school leavers and three years for graduates, beginning with an advanced bookkeeping qualification before progressing through AAT and ACA certifications, and finishing as a qualified chartered accountant.
Andrew Timms, managing partner at the Nottingham office of UHY said: “It’s fantastic to see another strong cohort of young apprentices join UHY. Supporting new talent is at the heart of our firm’s growth, and we are committed to equipping our trainees with the skills and experience needed to become the next generation of accountancy professionals.
“UHY has recently undergone a rebrand and a key part of this is to help people prosper, which applies to our clients and internal teams. By investing in trainees from the outset, we foster a skilled workforce and create opportunities for individuals to qualify as chartered accountants, while gaining invaluable real-world experience.”
Harrison Brister, a trainee in UHY’s audit team, added: “Choosing a career in audit was an easy decision for me. I’ve always had a strong interest in business, and audit provides exposure to every aspect of how a company operates. When looking for an apprenticeship, UHY stood out to me from the start because of its supportive and welcoming culture.
“It was clear the firm cared just as much about me as a person as they did about my skillset and after nearly 1.5 years as a trainee, this care has remained. The encouragement and support from colleagues at all levels has been instrumental in my development and I am excited to continue growing within the firm.”
