BDO has revealed that its deal advisory team served on 266 deals in 2024, which had a combined value of £19.5bn.

This is an uplift in volume and value from the figures in the year before when there were 205 transactions totalling £10.5bn. BDO has also seen a rise in private equity-related transactions, which accounted for 63% of deals.

The technology, media and telecoms (TMT), financial services, and real estate sectors were the most active for BDO. Private equity interest in the TMT and financial services also increased, with deal volumes in those sectors rising by 100% and 47%, respectively.

Real estate was the third most active sector for BDO, which saw the firm “significantly” outperform the market, having advised on three of the largest listed REIT combinations in 2024 – reflecting nearly £9bn of deals in these transactions alone.

Gurpal Ahluwalia, head of deals at BDO, said: “It’s been a robust year of performance for BDO right across the UK regions and in our sectors. We’re proud to have partnered with so many of our clients to help them achieve their ambitions.

“These latest results are testament to our track record and expertise of supporting private equity investors and the entrepreneurial businesses they back in BDO’s economic engine heartland.”

Despite lingering macroeconomic headwinds, the firm believes that many of its key sectors remain “poised for growth and strong levels of activity”.

It also anticipates a further rise in private equity transactions as more capital is deployed and investors look to realise value from their existing portfolios.
