Opus Business Advisory Group has reinforced its national growth strategy with a series of senior hires across its Forensic Accounting and Restructuring and Insolvency divisions, strengthening its capability to support clients across the UK.

In Manchester, Opus Forensic Accounting has appointed Paul Widger FCA as director, alongside Carolyn Plummer, as the firm continues to expand its disputes and investigations offering nationally. Both join from a major global law firm, bringing significant experience in complex commercial disputes, investigations and forensic analysis.

Widger will lead the development of Opus’ Forensic Accounting practice in Manchester, complementing the firm’s established presence across London, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham and Bristol. His appointment reflects growing demand for independent experts nationwide, particularly in high-value and complex matters.

Nicholas Parton, head of Forensic Accounting at Opus, said: “Paul’s background is exceptional. His experience leading an in-house forensic accounting function within a global law firm gives him a deep understanding of what lawyers and clients need in high-stakes situations. His arrival further strengthens our national offering.”

Paul Widger added: “Opus has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality expert work. I’m looking forward to growing the Manchester practice and working closely with colleagues across the UK, particularly where forensic accounting plays a critical role in restructuring and insolvency engagements.”

Further south, Opus Restructuring and Insolvency has continued to build its presence with the appointment of experienced insolvency practitioner Andrew Watling as partner in its Southampton office, alongside senior manager Mel Croucher.

Watling brings more than 40 years’ experience and joins from a national advisory firm, where he led its largest Southampton office. His appointment marks a significant step in the development of Opus’ South Coast offering, following the launch of its Southampton office in late 2025.

He said: “Opus has a strong culture and clear ambition. I’m looking forward to building the South Coast team and supporting businesses across the region.”

Tim Dolder, managing partner at Opus, concluded: “These appointments reflect our continued investment in high-calibre people as we continue to expand nationally. Strengthening both our Forensic Accounting and Restructuring & Insolvency capabilities ensures we are well positioned to support clients, lawyers and stakeholders across the UK with joined-up, specialist expertise.”
