Blick Rothenberg has acquired The VAT Consultancy in a move aimed at expanding its indirect tax practice and strengthening its advisory capability across value added tax (VAT) and customs duty work.

The London-based firm said the deal forms part of a wider plan to grow its tax services after recent investment in its VAT team, including senior hires following the retirement of two partners. The acquisition brings additional advisers and a portfolio of corporate clients to the practice.

Both firms said their technical focus and shared working culture made the partnership a natural fit. The combined team will form part of Blick Rothenberg’s wider indirect tax practice as the firm targets long-term growth.

Jim Brown, COO at Blick Rothenberg, said: “The VAT Consultancy is a business we have known and worked with on shared client matters for many years. We have always been impressed by the expertise and the professionalism of the team there and are delighted that they will now become a part of Blick Rothenberg along with the fantastic client base they have built over this time.

“The team will significantly strengthen our indirect tax offering and continue to build our position as tax advisers to ambitious corporate clients who can rely on both the breadth and depth of our offering.”

Julie Park, managing director VAT and customs duty at The VAT Consultancy, added: “We are hugely impressed with Blick Rothenberg’s recognition of how important and impactful indirect taxes can be for clients.

“Joining forces with their existing team will enable us all to focus on delivering the VAT and duty services clients want, and in the way they want them to be provided. There’s a great cultural fit with our people so we are confident of a smooth transition.”
