Manchester-based contracting and accounting firm Sapphire has announced the appointment of Helen Grey to the role of global business development director as it pursues further international growth.

Grey has more than 25 years of experience in payroll and accounting, including senior roles at software provider Sage. She has worked across the UK, US and wider international markets, specialising in building strategic partnerships to support global expansion.

At Sapphire, she will be responsible for shaping and delivering the company’s international business strategy. This will include forging partnerships with recruitment agencies, strengthening its presence in the UK and US, and exploring opportunities in other high-growth markets.

Her appointment follows a period of rapid expansion within Sapphire’s international division. The firm recently introduced a global employment services solution that allows it to operate in more than 100 countries, supporting clients with tax, compliance and workforce management.

It also launched a freelancer accountancy service across six European countries, including Spain, the Netherlands, Italy and France. Alongside its licensed payroll operation in Germany, these services have helped drive a 116% rise in international revenue.

Alex Moore, sales operations director at Sapphire, said: “Helen’s appointment is an important step in Sapphire’s journey. Her experience in both the UK and US markets, combined with her ability to build long-term strategic partnerships, makes her the ideal person to lead our global business development.”

Grey added: “Sapphire is a market leader with a culture that truly sets it apart. The energy, motivation and commitment within the business are unlike anything I’ve experienced, and it’s clear why the company has built such a strong reputation.”
