Azets has acquired Alextra, an accountancy and business advisory firm operating across the North West and the Midlands.
The deal includes Alextra’s offices in Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe and Warrington and all staff from the three locations will join Azets, though the Alextra wealth management team will remain a separate independent business. The acquisition establishes a new geographical link for Azets between its Birmingham and Manchester operations.
The firm has 4,000 employees across more than 70 UK offices. Alextra will rebrand as Azets, providing its small and medium-sized enterprise clients with access to a wider network of specialist advisory services.
Senior management will remain in their roles following the transaction, which completed on 20 May 2025. Director Mathew Weaver will become office managing partner for the three sites.
The deal follows a period of organic growth for Alextra, which advises clients across England and Wales. Legal advice for the acquisition was provided to Azets by Simon Procter, Emily Egan, Fatima Khan and Maria Foanta at Shoosmiths.
UK and Ireland chief executive at Azets Peter Gallanagh said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Alextra to Azets. They’re a high-performing, well-respected practice with a hugely talented team, and have a history of providing excellent support to SMEs both locally and across the country.”
Gallanagh added: “Alextra will be the bridge between the Midlands and North West for Azets and the team there share our approach to supporting and developing our people.”
Office managing partner Mathew Weaver said: “We’re delighted to join Azets. Becoming part of the Group will help us with our plans to scale and grow, and we’ll benefit from access to broader infrastructure, capability and support.”
Weaver said: “It’s a very exciting move which will enable us to deliver better value to our clients, work smarter, grow faster, and provide greater opportunities for our team.”
