Accountancy firm Ensors has expanded its Ipswich office after outgrowing its existing space amid continued recruitment and business growth.

The firm has added new workspaces and internal meeting room pods at its office in Connexions, 159 Princes Street, where it has been based since 2021. A new meeting room opening onto an external deck overlooking Ipswich Town Football Club’s Portman Road stadium has also been created.

The expanded space now houses Ensors’ business services and payroll teams in Ipswich, which are led by partner David Fairbank.

Fairbank said: “We had outgrown our existing space due to our strategic recruitment programme to handle exceptional business growth.

“It’s an exciting time for us as the extended office not only allows us to accommodate our growing number of staff comfortably, but also offer clients modern, high quality, state-of-the-art rooms for meetings.”

He added: “Our new meeting room pods facilitate privacy for colleagues to make video calls to clients who sometimes may prefer the convenience of Teams or Zoom to in-person meetings.”

Ensors was founded in Ipswich in 1889 by Isaac Lott Ensor and is one of the region’s longest-established accountancy firms. Over its history, the business has operated under several names, including I L Ensor and Son and Ensor Son and Goult, before adopting the name Ensors in 1977.

The firm has previously been based at a number of Ipswich locations, including Museum Street, Elm Street, Queen Street, Franciscan Way and Cardinal House on St Nicholas Street, before relocating to Connexions.

Connexions 159 opened in 2016 and was the first speculative office development in Ipswich for 26 years. The Grade A building provides 43,551 sq ft of accommodation across four storeys and occupies the former headquarters of Fisons.

In September, UK top 10 accountancy firm Azets acquired Ensors, which employs around 300 people across six offices in Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Huntingdon, Ipswich, Norwich and Saxmundham.

Ensors continues to operate under its own name as part of Azets, with a regional leadership team led by regional managing director for the east, David Scrivener.
