Wright Vigar has appointed James Wathey as head of payroll as the East Midlands accountancy firm continues to expand and modernise its payroll operations.

The firm said the role forms part of its plan to support growth in demand from clients across the region and nationally.

Wathey joins from Cottons Group, where he spent five years as head of payroll, leading the development of the department across multiple offices.

His earlier career includes payroll positions at regional and national firms. At Wright Vigar, Wathey will focus on maintaining accuracy and efficiency within the payroll function while supporting the department’s expansion.

He said: “I was drawn to Wright Vigar not just by its reputation for professionalism and expertise, but by the tangible sense of community. They are honestly the friendliest people I’ve met in an accountancy firm; it has a real ‘family feel’.

“The company is ambitious and constantly growing, which opens up fantastic areas for professional progression. It’s an exciting time to join a firm that is clearly investing in its future..”

Paul Colcomb, director at Wright Vigar, added: “The appointment of James is a huge asset for Wright Vigar and, most importantly, for our clients. His proven leadership in developing and scaling payroll departments aligns perfectly with our strategic goals for growth and service modernisation.”
