Johnston Carmichael has announced the appointment of long-established private client tax director, Chris Hodgson, to strengthen its team in Newcastle.
Hodgson has over 37 years of experience in private client tax, having built his career at local firm Azets – formerly Tait Walker.
Over the decades, he has honed his expertise in personal and corporate tax advisory services, capital gains tax, inheritance tax and trust planning.
In his new role, Hodgson will be responsible for providing tailored tax planning solutions and will be working closely with clients to implement their business growth and succession strategies.
He will also collaborate internally with specialist teams, including wealth management and global mobility to deliver comprehensive client support.
Hodgson said: “I was drawn to Johnston Carmichael’s exceptional client service and extensive knowledge across the firm. The Newcastle office has a dynamic and growing team that reminds me of the close-knit environment I started with in 1987.
“I’m excited to be part of the firm’s growth journey and to bring my knowledge to help clients navigate the ever-changing tax landscape, especially in areas like inheritance tax, trusts, and planning for family business owners. It’s incredibly rewarding to help individuals and families protect their wealth and achieve their goals.”
Paul Shields, audit partner and head of Johnston Carmichael’s Newcastle office, said: “We’re delighted to have Chris on board. His exceptional experience and deep understanding of private client tax is second to none. Having worked with Chris in a previous role, I know just how much value he brings to both clients and colleagues.”
Alex Docherty, partner and head of private client tax, added: “Chris is a fantastic addition to the Johnston Carmichael team as we continue to grow in the North East of England. His impressive breadth of expertise and his ability to build trusted relationships with clients are exactly what we need to support our ambitious growth plans.”
