EQ Accountants has announced its merger with Sumer Group, a business services platform that delivers professional support to SMEs across the UK.

EQ, which is the seventh and latest firm to join Sumer, is a top 20 Scottish firm with over 140 staff and 16 partners, based across three offices in Tayside and Fife.

The firm predominantly works with owner-managed businesses, providing accounting, taxation, and business advisory services to clients across agriculture, property, leisure, healthcare, manufacturing, engineering and technology.

EQ is the fourth firm to announce a tie-up with Sumer in just over a month as the pace of growth for the group accelerates into 2024. The firm joins existing members Monahans, RMT Accountants, R.T. Marke, Jerroms, Carpenter Box and Simmons Gainsford

This latest partnership not only takes Sumer into the Scottish market; it also brings the group to over 900 champions supporting thousands of clients across the UK.

Warren Mead, CEO of Sumer, said: “We’re delighted to have such a positive start to 2024 – our partnership with the team at EQ is hugely exciting. Scotland is key to our strategy. The fact that we have been able to launch with such a strong, creative, client centred business in EQ is incredible.”

Craig Nicol, CEO of EQ Accountants, said: “This is a time of significant opportunity for the accountancy profession, and we are excited to join the Sumer Group which realises our ambitions to continue to be a progressive, successful and growing firm.

“We are committed to creating an inclusive culture for our people with a continued deep respect for our clients and dedication to first-class service. We partnered with Warren and his team because it is very clear that our values are aligned.”

He added: “This is a pivotal moment for us and being part of the Sumer Group will enable us to deliver our growth ambitions and create new innovative opportunities for our clients, our people and our firm.”
