Accountancy and advisory firm, Mazars, has appointed Sir Amyas Morse as an independent non-executive (INE) to its UK Public Interest Committee.

Morse will be responsible for decision making, quality and risk across the audit business in his new position.

He was previously a global managing director at PwC as well as The National Audit Office (NAO), where he was responsible for auditing. Morse will join Ines Denise Fletcher and Guy Jubbo on the Public Interest Committee.

Denise Fletcher, chair of the Public Interest Committee, said she is “delighted” to welcome Morse to the committee.

She said: “Audit quality and governance standards are vitally important to both the UK and global firm. Sir Amyas’ experience and perspective will support the firm’s commitment to the application of the highest levels of oversight.”

Senior partner, Phil Verity, added: “We are committed to upholding the highest standards within our industry and driving the modernisation of audit from the front.

“At a time when audit quality and the makeup of our industry are firmly in the spotlight, we believe that Sir Amyas’ guidance and counsel will be invaluable for the firm, adding to the experience and oversight provided by Denise and Guy”.
