The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has appointed Mark Millar as its new deputy president.

Millar is currently the CEO of St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich and will continue to work at the hospice after his appointment at ACCA.

Millar was elected to ACCA’s council in 2010 and served as vice president last year. He will serve alongside ACCA’s president Jenny GU from China, and his successor as vice president, Orla Collins from the Republic of Ireland.

ACCA is the global body for professional accountants. It supports over 219,000 members and 527,000 in 179 countries, which include: Canada, USA, Ireland, United Arab Emirates. 

Millar qualified in 1980, after being rejected a university place to join the NHS and study for the ACCA. He has held several financial roles in the NHS and is also a non-executive director of Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Millar said: “I feel hugely honoured to be representing ACCA professionals from all over the world in this responsible role. It is an enormous privilege to serve ACCA, which does such amazing work in promoting the accountancy profession.”
