South West accountancy firm Albert Goodman has made four senior appointments across its tax teams, including a new partner, as it continues to expand specialist services and grow its regional footprint.

Lauren James has been promoted to partner in the personal tax team, having joined the firm in June 2024 as a director. James, who has more than 20 years’ experience advising private clients, will lead the personal tax team as Albert Goodman develops its offering in the area.

The firm has also appointed two senior managers to its corporate tax team. Oli Bolam joins as a senior manager specialising in corporation tax and research and development tax. He previously held roles at PRWS, ForrestBrown and Crowe UK and has 12 years’ experience in the sector.

Tom Butt has also been appointed senior manager in the corporate tax team. A chartered tax adviser with 14 years’ experience, Butt previously worked at Old Mill, Debenhams, Croner Taxwise and Azets, advising on a range of compliance and advisory matters.

Andy Grey has joined Albert Goodman as tax director in the corporate tax team. Grey previously held senior roles at RSM UK and PKF Francis Clark and will focus on advising small and medium-sized enterprises and larger corporates, with a remit to help grow the firm’s Bristol market presence.

The appointments follow a year of growth for Albert Goodman, which reported annual turnover of £21.4m, up 17% year on year. The firm is also the headline sponsor of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta for the next three years.

Albert Goodman managing partner, Iain McVicar, said: “We’re very proud to be offering new positions in the tax team to Lauren, Oli, Tom and Andy. These four bring specialist knowledge that will be of huge value to all our clients. I have every confidence they will all play an important role in the ongoing growth and success of Albert Goodman.”

Lauren James, partner and head of Personal Tax at Albert Goodman, added: “I’ve been lucky enough to work on the tax team at Albert Goodman since 2024, and I am excited for the opportunity to become partner in the business.

“Tax has been a huge talking point in this last year for all our clients, and they will no doubt be concerned by policy changes. I’m looking forward to leading a team of informed personal tax experts to support them.”

Andy Grey, tax director at Albert Goodman, concluded: “I’m delighted to be joining the Albert Goodman tax team at such a pivotal time in their growth. Albert Goodman has a long-standing reputation for combining technical excellence with genuine client care, and I’m excited to help drive that forward.”
