Begbies Traynor has appointed George Lafferty as director in its Glasgow office, adding more than three decades of insolvency experience to its Scottish team.

Lafferty joins from another Glasgow-based insolvency practice, where he was insolvency director, and has previously held senior roles with several established firms in the city.

Over a 34-year career, he has worked across sectors including hospitality, retail and construction, developing expertise in corporate and personal insolvency.

According to Begbies Traynor, the appointment strengthens its capacity in Scotland, where it now has five licensed insolvency practitioners.

Begbies Traynor has a 57-strong team across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and Belfast

Thomas McKay, managing partner for Begbies Traynor in Scotland, said: “With a long and successful career in corporate and personal insolvency, George will use his reputation and contacts across Glasgow to advise clients on the best route forward from distressed situations. He will also work with our teams across Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness.”

Lafferty added: “Joining Begbies Traynor was an obvious choice for me. The firm has one of the largest teams of insolvency practitioners in Scotland and is well placed to support businesses in the current economic climate.

“We are seeing growing financial pressure across sectors as demand weakens and costs rise. It’s essential that businesses have access to experienced professionals who can provide practical support.”
