Accountancy, business and financial advisory firm Armstrong Watson has taken on its largest intake of Level 4 apprentices, with more than 30 trainees joining this month.
The group includes 26 students beginning Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) courses and eight starting Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) training, up from 28 trainees in 2024.
The firm marked the intake with an event in Carlisle where new recruits heard from staff who had progressed through the same programmes. Applications have also opened for the 2026 cohort.
Trainees are based across Armstrong Watson’s offices in the North of England and Scotland, working in business services and tax compliance while studying towards their qualifications. Successful candidates can then progress to the ACA or CTA graduate schemes.
Alongside apprentices, the firm has welcomed 43 graduate trainees this year, who are working towards Level 7 apprenticeships.
Paul Dickson, chief executive and managing director of Armstrong Watson, said: “We strongly believe in growing our own talent and continue to invest in our training programme year on year, taking on more trainees as our business continues to grow. Our people are our business, providing solutions to our clients, and our training programme gives them an incredible foundation on which to build a successful career.
“With 19 offices across the North of England and Scotland and several different service lines supporting our clients, there’s a huge range of scope for career direction and development available to those who choose to join us.”
In the past 18 months, Armstrong Watson has expanded through acquisitions, including Gibbons Accountants in Cumbria and Glasgow-based firms Parkhill Mackie & Co and Martin Aitken, bringing in 170 staff and new clients.
