Armstrong Watson has announced the promotion and recruitment of three new Business Services directors to its senior accounting team in Cumbria.Matthew Hutton and Adam Pattison have been promoted to Business Services directors, while Rich Cowell joins the firm as Business Services director in Penrith.
Armstrong Watson has also made a senior hire in its Hexham team, with Ellen Bulloch joining as Business Services senior manager.
Hutton is Armstrong Watson’s head of Hospitality Leisure and Tourism and is based at the firm’s Kendal office. He joined the firm in 2018 as a manager and was later promoted to senior manager.
He said: “I’m excited and extremely proud to have been promoted to Business Services Director at Armstrong Watson. The last six years have been incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds, both for our Kendal office and the firm as a whole, as we aim to become ‘the best accounting and financial advisory firm to deal with, delivering the best client experience in the UK’.”
Pattison joined Armstrong Watson in 2020 as a Business Services manager in Carlisle. He trained and worked for 10 years at Gibbons Accountants, Business and Financial Advisers in West Cumbria, which merged into Armstrong Watson in 2024. He was promoted to senior manager in 2022 and has worked with clients in Carlisle and West Cumbria.
He said: “Our clients are at the forefront of everything we do, and I am excited to be working alongside them to achieve their goals and objectives.
“I am delighted to have been promoted to the role of Business Services Director. I have experienced first-hand the support the firm gives to colleagues to achieve their career goals. I find my role incredibly rewarding and fulfilling, working with our team in Carlisle, and previously West Cumbria, and across our service lines, as we support our clients.”
Finally, Cowell joins the firm after 15 years based in London, where he previously worked as an assistant director in EY’s Strategy and Transactions service line.
He said: “I am looking forward to supporting my clients to navigate the current market challenges we are all facing. I hope to leverage my experience to provide accounting and tax advice to inform client decision-making and, where needed, act as a sounding board to discuss new ideas for their businesses.”
