Nearly three-quarters (71%) of apprentices have reported a salary increase since beginning their apprenticeship, according to the Association of Accounting Technicians’ (AAT) latest Salary Survey for qualified and training accountants.

According to the new data, 83% of those who have completed accounting qualifications with AAT stated that the qualification has increased their earning potential.

Additionally, Level 2 students can expect to earn a median salary of £24,500, with progression and reward “clear to see” in the accounting career pathway, as the average salary for AAT members increases to £35,000 once they have advanced to professional membership.

Meanwhile, the data also revealed a 34% increase in salary between Level 4 and full member status (MAAT).

In addition to the publication of the new survey, AAT has also launched a Salary Survey calculator, so that users can compare their salary with fellow members based on level, job title or age.

Sarah Beale, AAT CEO, said: “The new Salary Survey is further evidence of the opportunity and progression available through a career in accounting, as well as a clear indicator of the value placed on the role of Accounting Technicians by employers in all sectors. Seeing our students and members reaping the financial rewards of their hard work is testament to the skills our qualifications are providing, and to the hard work of our professionals who continue to exemplify the ambition AAT is all about.

“We are continuously improving our qualifications and our CPD to ensure that all our professionals are equipped for the challenges of the modern world so that they can continue to provide the skills employers are looking for and have every chance of progressing on an upward pathway.”

She added: “Reporting figures like these are key for transparency so that our community knows they can trust AAT. I would encourage any students, career changers or indeed anyone looking for a new challenge or opportunity, to have a look at these results and the benefits of an accounting career.”
