Alvarez and Marsal Tax has expanded into Ireland with the appointment of David Smyth and Declan Lavelle as managing directors.
Lavelle has been named as the leader of the new Ireland tax practice, based in Dublin.
The expansion follows the firm’s entry into the Irish market in 2025. The new practice will focus on tax restructuring and advisory services, targeting sectors including life sciences, technology, and financial services.
Lavelle joins from DLA Piper, where he was a tax partner. He has previously held roles at William Fry and Deloitte, specialising in corporate tax and international M&A structuring.
Meanwhile, Smyth joins from EY following a 39-year tenure as a tax partner, where he advised multinational groups on international tax affairs.
The move into Ireland follows recent international expansions for the firm, including new advisory offerings in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Ernesto Perez, global practice leader of A&M Tax, said: “Dublin is a global hub for a cluster of key sectors including life sciences, technology, financial and professional services. As the only English-speaking common-law country in the Eurozone, Ireland is seeing growing demand for tax restructuring and advisory services.”
Marvin Rust, managing director and head of A&M Tax EMEA, added: “David and Declan join at a pivotal time as we expand our tax practice into Ireland alongside broader growth across the firm in the market.
“Dublin is a strategic hub for global tax services, and establishing a strong local presence is critical. Their deep local experience makes them the right leaders to grow our business in Ireland.”
