Professional services firm Alvarez and Marsal has announced the appointment of Tom Hufton as a senior director within its new reputation advisory practice in London.
In his new role, Hufton will be responsible for advising public companies and private equity-backed businesses on multi-stakeholder communications during complex financial and operational transitions.
Hufton previously spent 15 years at FTI Consulting, where he led restructuring communications for corporate and lender clients across the retail, leisure, hospitality and consumer goods sectors.
His experience also includes advising on mergers and acquisitions, carve-outs, refinancing and debt issuances, as well as managing stakeholder relations through both financial and operational restructuring processes.
News of the appointment follows the launch of A&M’s reputation advisory practice earlier this year, which focuses on managing enterprise value during restructurings, disputes and transactions.
The reputation advisory practice was established to meet increased client demand for coordinated advice during periods of heightened scrutiny. It also aims to protect business perceptions.
Richard Fleming, managing director and head of European restructuring at A&M, said: “Tom’s appointment adds momentum to our growing reputation advisory capabilities. He has a strong track record.
“He has advised consumer-facing businesses through high-pressure situations, where clear, credible communication is critical to preserving value and maintaining control.”
Hufton added: “It is a really exciting time to be joining A&M. We are in an environment here clear and decisive communications can have a material impact on business outcomes. This preserves economic value for investors, organisations and their people.”
