PKF Smith Cooper has advised on the sale of the business and assets of Martyn Barratt Transport Limited, securing the warehouse and distribution company’s 40 jobs.

The accountancy and business advisory firm said Martyn Barratt, based in Nottingham, had faced persistent financial strain from raised National Minimum Wage, National Insurance Contributions and vehicle operating expenses, as well as the owner’s impending retirement.

It added that by contacting PKF Smith Cooper early on, the company’s shareholders were able to consider several strategies and choose a course of action that would ensure the business’ operations for the foreseeable future.

Zero Degree Logistics Ltd acquired its business and assets, a transaction PKF Smith Cooper said safeguards customer continuity and offers a robust jumping off point for future expansion under new ownership.

Zero Degree Logistics is part of the ‘On the Rocks’ group, a UK frozen food and wholesale ice cream supplier serving cafes, shops and restaurants nationwide.

PKF Smith Cooper collaborated with Martyn Brierley of Flint Bishop, who represented the sellers, and Su Garner of Freeths, who supported the purchaser.

The firm said that the work of all advisers put together was intrinsic to the transaction’s successful execution.

Dean Nelson, business recovery and restructuring partner at PKF Smith Cooper, said: “We are delighted to have secured such a positive outcome for Martyn Barratt Transport, protecting all jobs and ensuring the business continues to trade successfully.

“This transaction demonstrates the value of taking proactive advice when facing financial or operational pressures. By acting early, the owners were able to protect the workforce, preserve the business, and secure a strong future under new ownership.”

On the Rocks founder Magnus Windsor and director Amit Sharma added: “We are delighted to welcome Martyn Barratt Transport into the group and look forward to working closely with the team, customers, and suppliers to build a sustainable and successful future.”
