Bishop Fleming has appointed James Maynell as a transaction support partner in its Birmingham office.
Maynell joins the leadership team to support clients with due diligence during mergers and acquisitions.
The appointment follows the opening of the firm’s Birmingham office in January 2025. The team has since expanded to five partners and more than 20 staff members.
Maynell brings 20 years of commercial experience, including 12 years in operational transaction services at EY and a recent role as a partner at Ballards.
His new role focuses on identifying commercial value and risks in corporate deals. He will support the firm’s national expansion and its services for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Birmingham office lead, Mark Taylor, said: “We are delighted to welcome James as transaction support partner at a pivotal moment in our firm’s national expansion, as we strengthen our proposition for the middle market. His track record in facilitating complex corporate transactions, combined with his expertise in SME finance, means he will be a valuable addition to our senior leadership team.
“As we expand in the West Midlands and beyond, James’ expertise in private equity will help ensure we continue to deliver the high levels of service and advice our clients expect as we transition into a national player in tax and advisory services.”
Maynell added: “What attracted me to Bishop Fleming is the firm’s unique position in the mid-market and the sheer speed at which the Birmingham practice has grown. It is a testament to the high level of service quality it delivers for its clients. In the current market, due diligence shouldn’t just be a “tyre-kicking” exercise or a check on the numbers; it’s about identifying the hidden value opportunities and risks that drive a deal’s success.
“I’m looking forward to unlocking the value opportunities still yet to be discovered in the Midlands. The region’s status as a major transport hub, traditional manufacturing and professional services industry powerhouse translates into a significant commercial opportunity.”
