Square 4 Partners has announced the appointment of the former director of consumer finance, Roma Pearson, as senior advisory director within its consultancy division.

Pearson’s appointment comes as financial services firms face increasing pressure to meet evolving regulatory expectations, particularly in relation to the consumer duty regime and the FCA’s shift towards outcomes-based supervision.

With a regulatory career spanning over 25 years, Pearson brings “unparalleled” insights into UK financial regulations.

At the FCA, she led the supervision and policy development of the consumer lending market and held several senior positions, including head of mortgages and consumer lending, head of retail general insurance, and head of risk advisory.

Pearson has also been credited with playing a “pivotal” role in the policy development for: strengthening consumer protection for customers in financial difficulty; the ban on debt packagers’ referral fees; and future regulation of deferred payment credit, among others.

Paul Scott, managing director of Square 4 Partners, said: “We are delighted to welcome Roma to our award-winning advisory team. Her deep regulatory expertise and leadership experience at the FCA will be invaluable to our clients as they navigate complex compliance challenges and strive to meet the highest standards of governance and accountability.”

Pearson added: “I am excited to join Square 4 Partners at such a pivotal time for the financial services industry. With regulatory expectations evolving rapidly, firms are under increasing pressure to not only comply but to demonstrate real commitment to delivering good outcomes for consumers.

“I look forward to working with the team at Square 4 and our clients to provide practical, forward-thinking solutions that help them navigate these challenges with confidence.”

Founded in 2021 with a team of former Big Four consultants, industry regulators, resource providers and leaders of G-SIFIs, Square 4 Partners is a consultancy and interim solutions provider specialising in governance, risk and compliance.
