The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has been shortlisted for the finals of this year’s Scottish Financial Services Awards for its work on leading the journey to net zero.

The industry-wide awards, organised by Scottish Financial Enterprise, seek to recognise the contribution that both firms and its people have made to the sector and society.

As well as supporting members and trainees working in financial and professional services across Scotland, ACCA has also introduced a range of resources to support accountants to meet global climate targets.

The organisation launched its SME Playbook, a resource that supports finance professionals working with SMEs to develop sustainability plans, ahead of COP26, the Playbook helps SMEs to understand how to plan, measure and report on sustainability goals.

ACCA’s strategic engagement lead for Scotland Susan Love said: “We’re thrilled to be nominated for our work on net zero because we know that financial professionals have a critical role to play delivering upon Scotland’s climate ambitions; whether advising firms on investment to reduce environmental impact, collecting the right data in business, or using their expertise to draw together corporate reporting on emissions.

“ACCA takes its commitment to supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals seriously and we have a key role to play ensuring our members across the world have the right skills and resources to play their part.”

Sandy Begbie CBE, chief executive, Scottish Financial Enterprise, added: “The number and quality of entries for this year’s awards has been outstanding, and reflects the huge progress of the industry over the past 12 months.

“The launch of SFE’s strategy last year has underpinned a growing industry-wide focus on the shared priorities that are helping us become a stronger, fairer and more inclusive industry, at the forefront of the sustainable economic recovery – priorities that have only become more important as we face down an accelerating cost-of-living crisis – and these themes are front and centre at this year’s awards.”

This year’s awards have attracted a record 73 nominations. The awards ceremony, which is sponsored by EY, takes place on 27 October, at the Doubletree by Hilton, Glasgow Central.
