Charles Stanley has appointed James Rae as head of inheritance tax (IHT) portfolio management.

Rae joined the Charles Stanley inheritance tax team in July 2017. Prior to joining, he worked in Edinburgh with Charlotte Square investment managers where he was the lead manager of the inheritance tax service.

The IHT team at Charles Stanley is award-winning and currently manages over £470m of clients’ assets. The team reportedly aims to deliver consistent performance in the alternative investment market (AIM) to provide tax efficient investments that allow clients to pass on their wealth to future generations, with the added potential for high growth in innovative businesses.

Rae will report directly to Dan James, head of asset management, and is based in the Charles Stanley London office. The team is also said to “draw on expertise from across the group and is fully integrated with the broader asset management and research team”.

Dan James, head of asset management, said: “James has a strong proven track record investing in AIM markets, both at Charles Stanley and in his previous roles, and he’s able to translate that experience into opportunities in clients’ portfolios.

“This specialist team will continue to flourish, supported by a strong team-based approach and a tried-and-tested investment philosophy, which will allow us to continue to deliver for our clients.”
