Clarksons, a Leyburn-based accountancy firm, has secured chartered accountancy status after obtaining a practising certificate with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

James Clarkson, who joined the firm in 2007, completed a three year ACCA qualification in 2016 while combining his studies with work, then commenced the application process for a Practising Certificate in 2020.

Dawn Clarkson, co-director at Clarksons, said: “It is very rewarding to see James obtain his Practicing Certificate from the ACCA; the whole team is immensely proud of him. James is home-grown talent, and it is a well-deserved achievement.”

As well as achieving chartered status, Clarksons said it has fully invested in embracing cloud-based software and will use Xero for its clients’ accountancy needs.

James Clarkson said: “We are proud to have gained ‘Xero Gold Partner Status’ last summer, which allows us to deliver the most efficient service to our clients, who are always at the centre of everything we do.”

Clarksons is run by a team of eight who have either gained or are training through the AAT, ATT and ACCA. The firm said it “prides itself” in supporting local talent and is at present assisting two apprentices who are working towards their AAT qualifications. The firm is also set to welcome applications for the position of trainee accounts technician from mid-June.
