Moore East Midlands, which has offices in Peterborough, Corby and Northampton has launched a new probate service to complement its existing trusts, estates and inheritance tax planning services.

Probate services were historically only offered by solicitors, but in 2014 the law changed to allow accredited accountants the chance to undertake non-contentious probate work.

The accountancy practice is offering its new service to both existing and new clients with prices starting from around £1,500.

Matthew Grief, who is heading up the new service, said: “As accountants we have more knowledge in respect of the taxation and accountancy requirements than traditional probate practitioners.

“When asked to act for existing clients we already hold a significant amount of information in relation to their financial affairs which can make the whole process far less time consuming.”

He added: “Our service is completely flexible. We are happy to work with you to keep costs down if you can do some of the more straightforward, administrative tasks yourself, or, if you prefer, we can handle everything on your behalf.”
