Durham joins as assistant accounts manager at the firm, bringing along 11 years of working at Leicester-based accountancies. She has also obtained her ACCA qualification and gained experience as a business services manager before heading up a small practice.

Meanwhile, Pearson joins the tax team as a personal tax manager, having previously worked in the personal tax profession since 1990 and starting his career in the Inland Revenue.

It is reported that in 2001 he moved into the public sector, starting out as a tax trainee, and has been a personal tax manager since 2007 after completing his qualifications.

Durham said: “At UHY I am managing a portfolio of non-audit clients with year-end accounts, VAT return and management accounts to ensure their finances are moving in the required direction.

“I help set up accounting software to track project financials, including costs, invoiced work and profit margin to maximise job profitability – this technology enables us to be more forward thinking, advise clients in real time and build stronger relationships.”

She added: “I enjoy the variety of work as helping to make internal processes more efficient and streamlining the accounting process is not limited to one sector.”

Pearson said: “I manage a team of four responsible for the delivery of personal tax compliance services to UHY Nottingham’s varied client base, working closely with our tax advisory team to identify opportunities where clients could be more tax efficient.

“I particularly enjoy working on residency and domicile issues and am looking forward to supporting our non-resident clients. It’s exciting to be working at regional and national levels at this early stage in my role.”

James Simmonds, partner at UHY Hacker Young, added: “Businesses across the East Midlands are understandably concerned with soaring costs and we endeavour to provide the best service to report and advise on financial matters.

“UHY is driven by the purpose of helping people prosper, with a friendly environment and a leadership team who exude its core values. Lucy and Des bring these traits alongside significant managerial experience, so we’re confident they will steer their respective departments to great achievements.”
