Dow Schofield Watts Reading office reports ‘buoyant’ first year

The firm now has over 80 professionals nationwide, most of whom have worked in ‘big four’ accountancy firms or held senior roles in banking

The Reading office of Dow Schofield Watts has reported a ‘buoyant’ first year, having advised on nine completed corporate finance deals with a total value of over £50m.

The office, which was launched in September 2021 by husband and wife team Steve and Carla Holmes, offers financial and tax due diligence plus tax advisory services, and works alongside the DSW Debt Advisory service led by Gavin Harrison which helps businesses raise debt funding.

Dow Schofield Watts now has over 80 professionals nationwide, most of whom have worked in ‘big four’ accountancy firms or held senior roles in banking.

Steve Holmes said: “Our first year has surpassed all our expectations, which is due in part to the buoyancy of the market and the strength of the local economy. Reading has always been seen as a gateway between London, the Midlands, Wales and the West Country.

“The launch of the Elizabeth line, which connects Reading directly with Heathrow Airport, the City of London and Canary Wharf, is making a big difference though. The Reading skyline is testament to the investment pouring in, and we are seeing increasing commitment from PE and VC firms as well as banks.

He added: “While there are obviously concerns about economic headwinds, there is little sign as yet of any impact. The Thames Valley has always been a very resilient market with a wealth of high-quality SMEs in the region and I believe UK and foreign investors will continue to want to work with them. Our high-quality due diligence reports help ensure that those investors can complete their deals with confidence.”

Carla Holmes said: “Our aim is to make high-quality advisory services more accessible to SMEs and their investors. We look forward to continuing to build our presence in the year ahead and establishing ourselves as trusted advisers in the local market.”
