Azets has revealed it has appointed James Wheeler to the role of global mobility and employment tax director, based at its Birmingham office.

Wheeler will lead Azets’ national global mobility service and continue to develop the UK Top 10 firm’s Employment Tax offering across its central region.

According to the firm, Wheeler has 25 years’ experience in global mobility, having worked within ‘Big Four’’ firms since graduating from the University of Birmingham. He has worked with clients of all sizes in a wide variety of business sectors, operating across the Midlands, Manchester, and London.

Wheeler specialises in all aspects of global mobility, including tax residency and domicile issues, cross-border social security compliance, the application of double taxation treaties, and the risks associated with cross-border moves from an employer perspective. This includes withholding tax obligations, cost control and the compliance aspects associated with short-term business visitors to the UK.

Clare Clifford, regional head of tax with Azets, said: “James has a fantastic reputation throughout the Midlands and nationally, and is an important addition to the Azets team as we continue to accelerate our growth journey.

“James’ deep specialism in global mobility and employment tax enhances our tax advisory team, and our SME clients will benefit from his experience and knowledge at a critical time for employers.”

Wheeler added: “I’m really pleased to join Azets having followed the firm’s successes closely over the past year – and I’d like to thank Clare and the team for the warm welcome. I look forward to developing our specialist offerings nationally, working closely with talented colleagues and our broad portfolio of SME clients to deliver even greater value.”
