KPMG UK names Marie Curie as national charity

As KPMG’s national charity, Marie Curie, which provides care and support to people with a terminal illness and their loved ones, will be the primary beneficiary of the firm’s national charity programme

KPMG UK has named the end of life charity, Marie Curie, as its new national charity for the next two years.

The firm’s employees voted to elect a new national charity in the run up to its Connect Live event that was held on 16 November 2022.

As KPMG’s national charity, Marie Curie, which provides care and support to people with a terminal illness and their loved ones, will be the primary beneficiary of the firm’s national charity programme.

This includes fundraising, volunteering, pro bono and thought leadership opportunities.

The criteria for the new national charity partner was for a UK charity that was supporting society to “build back better” following the pandemic, promoting “cohesion and its connection to communities”.

KPMG will also provide some pro bono services to support Marie Curie with its organisational strategy and growth.

Over the past three years, KPMG has raised more than £1.5m for UK children’s charity NSPCC, alongside an additional £500,000 of pro bono support.

Rachel Hopcroft, head of Corporate Affairs at KPMG UK, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Marie Curie and their mission to ensure that everyone with a terminal illness, no matter who they are or where they live, has the care and support they need; whether that’s dementia, cancer, heart disease or any other terminal condition.

“It’s a cause that has clearly really resonated with our colleagues, with the majority of them voting for Marie Curie to be our next national charity partner.”

Matthew Reed, CEO at Marie Curie, said: “Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on the people we support. It has kept families apart when human contact was the one thing they needed. Inequity has been exacerbated, and bereaved people have been isolated.

“And as a charity, fundraising has just not been possible at the level required. But now, thanks to KPMG UK, we can start to address these issues and strive to reach more people with a terminal illness and their loved ones.”

He added: “I want to thank KPMG and the staff who voted to make Marie Curie its charity partner. Together we will create a positive legacy of change for each person affected by terminal illness, for every community in which they live, and the UK as a whole.”
