EY has announced that, following a “competitive” tender process, the accounting firm has been proposed as auditor to Aviva plc.
Subject to shareholder approval at the 2024 Annual General Meeting, EY will reportedly be appointed for the financial year ending 31 December 2024.
Aviva is a British multinational savings, retirement and insurance company specialising in covers for car, home and health insurance to pensions, investments and asset management.
Last week, Aviva announced that its gross written premium for its general insurance line increased by 5% to £6.5bn in the nine months ending 30 September 2021, according to its latest trading update.
Additionally, EY said the appointment will “further strengthen EY’s strong credentials in the financial services sector and leading position in the insurance sector”.
Omar Ali, EMEIA financial services managing partner at EY, said: “This is another major appointment for our growing financial services audit practice.
“Our unrelenting focus on audit quality, investment into audit technology, deep sector insights, and global scale ensures that we are well-positioned to serve companies like Aviva – the UK’s leading insurer.”
He added: “We are proud of the vital role our profession plays in the functioning of the world’s capital markets.”
