KPMG names Vishal Chopra as Scottish tax head

KPMG has announced the appointment of Vishal Chopra as partner and head of tax in Scotland.

Joining from Grant Thornton, where he held the equivalent role, Chopra has experience in working with private businesses as a tax specialist.

The new position will see him lead a team of 90 tax professionals operating across KPMG’s Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow offices.

He said: “I’m delighted to join KPMG’s market leading tax team, continuing to support Scotland’s business community managing some of the most challenging times ever seen. 

“KPMG continues to show its commitment to Scotland’s economy and its people, and I’m excited to now be a part of that.”

The appointment follows Philippa Sanderson’s promotion to associate partner in July, underlining the group’s investment in specialist tax expertise.

Chopra will be succeeding the outgoing Alan Turner, who will now take on the responsibility to lead KPMG’s corporate tax and legal services practice in the UK.

Turner said that he is “delighted to be passing the baton over to Vishal,” acknowledging his successor’s “market reputation and commitment to clients”.

Catherine Burnet, regional chair in Scotland at the firm, confirmed that the appointment “reinforces” KPMG’s commitment to supporting both “businesses and the broader Scottish economy”.

She added: “He joins to lead a team that has recently been strengthened by a number of promotions, paving the way for strong growth.”
