Accountancy firm Newby Castleman has promoted its former financial controller to the role of practice manager.

Gulam Sattar was promoted from his previous position of financial controller at its office on Regent Road in May, following the appointment Joanne Chilton as partner earlier this year.

Sattar joined Newby Castleman’s bookkeeping and payroll services in April 2013, after graduating with a BA (Hons) in accounting and finance from De Montfort University in 2009.

In May 2017 he was promoted to his current role, taking charge of the firm’s in-house finances. In his new role of practice manager he will retain many of the duties of his former position, on top of which he is assisting the company’s Leicester partners in making decisions to help “drive the company forward.”

On a day-to-day basis, Sattar will work closely with managing partner Chris Castleman and financial partner Mike Castleman. He will also be working alongside the company’s IT manager to implement more efficient and analytical systems.

Sattar said: “It’s an honour to have been promoted to the position of practice manager within two years of my last promotion at Newby Castleman. In my new role, which is both analytical and collaborative, I will be responsible for developing the company internally.

“I am very much looking forward to embracing the challenges and opportunities that my position as practice manager will bring, as I work with the firm’s partners and staff to ensure that Newby Castleman continues to go from strength to strength financially.”

Castleman added: “We are delighted to announce Gulam’s advancement to practice manager, a role whose breadth and responsibility recognises Gulam’s proficiency and the experience he has gained with us over the last six years.

“I look forward to continuing to work with Gulam in securing and strengthening the future of our firm in Leicester.”
