Duncan and Toplis has announced the appointment of Charles Burrell as its new head of manufacturing to support growing demand across the Midlands.

Burrell, who is an assurance director based in the company’s Derby office, succeeds Julie Chapman, who is stepping down after two years in the role. Chapman will continue to support clients within the business.

The appointment comes as manufacturers across the region navigate rising costs, workforce challenges, supply chain disruption and economic uncertainty.

Burrell has almost 20 years of audit and assurance experience working with owner-managed businesses and complex groups across the East Midlands. In his new role, he will lead the manufacturing proposition while maintaining his presence across Derby.

The expansion forms part of a wider growth strategy under professional services network Kinbrook Group, which focuses on sector expertise and regional expansion.

Burrell said: “The Midlands has always played a critical role in UK manufacturing and Derby is a fantastic example of that heritage continuing to evolve. It remains a hugely important centre for innovation, engineering and industrial growth.

“Manufacturers are facing real challenges, but there are also significant opportunities for businesses that are prepared to adapt and invest. I’m delighted to take on the role of Head of Manufacturing and look forward to continuing to work closely with clients across the region and helping them navigate what comes next.”

Damon Brain, chief executive of Duncan and Topis, added: “Manufacturing is a vital sector for both Duncan and Toplis and the wider Midlands economy. We have deep roots in the region and a long history of supporting manufacturing businesses through every stage of growth.

“Charles’ appointment reflects our continued investment in this sector and our ambition to further strengthen our expertise across Derby and the wider Midlands. I would also like to thank Julie for her outstanding leadership and contribution over the past years.”
