BTG has appointed James Dutton as head of asset finance alongside three senior hires to manage domestic and international lending for its rebranded financial services group.
Dutton, who has 30 years of experience in cross-border transactions, will oversee the division formerly known as Begbies Traynor Group.
He is joined by senior relationship director John Egerton and relationship managers Paul Newman and Lee Lawrence.
The team is tasked with expanding BTG’s reach in hire purchase agreements and both soft and hard asset leasing.
This expansion follows the firm’s recent rebranding, intended to reflect a broader range of advisory services beyond its traditional insolvency roots.
The new appointments provide regional coverage across the North West, North East, and the South Coast.
Egerton, based in Manchester, brings three decades of experience from banking and brokerage sectors, while Newman and Lawrence will lead business development in Newcastle and Southampton respectively.
The division focuses on securing funding for complex equipment and vehicle finance, supporting clients through various stages of the corporate lifecycle.
The restructuring is designed to encourage collaboration between asset finance and BTG’s other service lines, including financial advisory and insurance.
By integrating these functions, the group intends to offer comprehensive capital solutions to SMEs and mid-market firms.
David Mathieson, managing director of funding and insurance at BTG, said: “James is leading the asset finance division. His experience and ability to work with lenders to find solutions for clients have enabled companies to take the next step in their growth. We have someone of his skillset to lead our asset finance division.”
Dutton added: “The rebrand has given us the opportunity to develop the asset finance team and encourage collaboration with other BTG service lines. This enables us to support clients throughout their lifecycle. Bringing John, Lee, and Paul to the team adds experience that clients will benefit from as we help them grow. We are looking forward to making sure they know there are opportunities to benefit from a wider range of services.”
